نحوه عملکرد: شبه هورمون‌های پوست اندازی

رانکس از گروه تنظیم کننده‌های رشد حشرات (IGRs) است که حشره کشی هورمونی با اثر گوارشی و تماسی که شامل ترکیبات شیمیایی دی آسیل هیدرازین می‌باشد. متعلق به گروه 18 از گروه‌های مقاومتی آیراک می‌باشد که از طریق ایجاد اختلال در سنتز کیتین و تشدید هورمون پوست اندازی سبب پوست اندازی زود هنگام و در نهایت توقف تغذیه لارو می شود. همچنین با نابارور کردن تخم ها می تواند جمعیت آفات پروانه ای را کنترل کند. فعالیت لارو پس از تغذیه یا تماس با این آفتکش متوقف شده اما مرگ و میر لاروها 5-6 روز بعد به طور کامل مشاهده خواهد شد. استفاده از این آفتکش به دلیل خاصیت انتخابی به لارو بالپولکداران، حافظ محیط زیست بوده و حداقل خطر را برای سایر حشرات از جمله زنبورها و دشمنان طبیعی دارد. براین اساس قابل توصیه در سیستم مدیریت تلفیقی آفات (IPM) می‌باشد.
